Like many of my clients, I spent a great deal of time during the early years of my career (first teaching, then journalism) wondering what I wanted to do with my life and spending all my time and energy barking up trees that were ultimately wrong for me.
The turning point came at 5.45 one Sunday morning at work as I was looking through some newspapers and preparing to read a news bulletin when I came across an article on personal development. It felt like I’d been given an adrenaline shot - no mean feat at that time in the morning!
Some months later, having put many of the principles of coaching into practice in my own life, I took a running jump off the end of a much-coveted cliff (a job at the BBC) and, with unwavering determination and commitment, I turned my life around completely and retrained in the field of motivational change.
Later on again, I came across an inspirational woman, Nicola Cairncross of The Money Gym, who told me that maybe my 'problem' was that I was an entrepreneur.
She was right, and since then I've been happily getting out and staying out of the rat race...
